Slightly Stoopid

With their new album, Chronchitis, about to be unleashed and a slew of dates including Lolapalooza and the Summer Haze Tour with G.Love and Ozomatli, Slightly Stoopid is once again ready to rock stages all across america. We got a hold of Miles from SS to talk about their current album, The Summer Haze Tour, and the title of their latest release.

By: Gian Erguiza

Gian: Hey Miles! What's happenin' man?

Miles:

Gian: So we heard that you guys are coming out with a new album this August. How excited are you guys to be releasing your newest installment?

Miles: We're really stoked man! We got to work with a lot of cool cats on the record, so it was kind of nice. It's always fun to do a tour right around the album time. We got to work with the Guru and a bunch of other cats.

Gian: So tell us a little about your album. what can we expect from your it?

Miles: It's a mellower album, with a good little jam to it....It doesn't really have anything heavy on it and I think all of the songs kind of blend in tight, the blues , the reggae, the hip hop sound, more like acoustic roots with a little bit of madness on top, you know what I'm sayin'?

Gian: So it's definitely a Stoopid album.

Miles: Yeah, were stoked man! We're stoked at how everything turned out. We also have new members on the album, Dela, C-Money incorporating the horns on the record. We definitely had a good time! We also got to work with Paul Learey, Mario C from the Beastie Boys, Miguel, Christine so that was cool man....We got to work with some cool cats, It was a good time!

Gian: Alright, what is up with the album title, "Chronchitis?" A lot of people were asking me about this....How did you guys come up with it?

Miles: I think Kyle said it? Chronchitis, you know how sometimes you start coughing when you smoke and it gets Chronic? It's like the funniest interpretation! I mean, we like to blaze it you know, It's like when you get that weed hangover over, that's my interpretation.

Gian: Would you guys consider your newest installment your best work so far?

Miles: Basically, It's a good record. I think, each time we make a record we try to do something different each time and we're stoked on the way it turned out.

Gian: The Summer Haze Tour with G. Love and Ozomatli is going to be amazing. How did this come about?

Miles: Yeah, it's going to be fucking nuts! Ozomatli always puts on a great live show and G.Love is always dope, we've been friends with G.Love for a long time so it's going to be nice to share the same stage together and have little jam sessions with everybody, so it's going to be cool.

Gian: You guys are partaking in Lollapalooza this year, which probably has one of the most amazing line-ups in history. Is there a certain band or artist that you guys are way happy to be sharing the stage with or are you just happy to be a part of it?

Miles: Yeah, honestly, I don't even know how this came about but I'm stoked! I think it's cool, we get to fly out from Chicago to start the tour with G.Love and Ozomatli and then back to California, sort to speak, In a number of days.

Gian: Is there a certain band that you're happy to be sharing the stage with at Lollapalooza?

Miles: Seriously? I don't even know who's playing Lollapalooza this year!

Gian: Yeah it's a big Bill, Its a pretty big big Bill actually...

Miles: Oh, Yeah man I know it's huge and take place every year....just going nuts getting ready to get this record out, getting ready to go on tour, im just excited to be back on the road.

Gian: Well obviously you guys are pretty excited to be playing Street scene, I mean it's in your hometown and all.....

Miles: Street scene's always fun. They moved up to the Del Mar Racetrack too, I don't know if you've ever been to the Del Mar Track but it's pretty dope.

Gian: Your Live DVD/CD in my opinion is your finest work so far. How did you guys decide which songs were going to end up on both?

Miles: Thanks Man! It was hard, you know you play a lot of live shows and theres a lot we can put in so we just picked, what we thought was the best kind of flow in the songs, when together. Most of it you know, I think pretty much, they're all good shows. I mean most of it was pretty straight up. It was fun too cause it was in our hometown, San Diego House of Blues, is always a dope spot.

Gian: I read on your website that you guys are re-releasing your first two albums. What made you guys re-release your first two releases on Skunk Records?

Miles: No one's been really able to get them. When we first released our self-titled record, we only printed 5,000 copies and that was it. Whoever was able to get it, got it back in 96? 95? But now, we've put them both together, kind of like a kit, it's kind of like a killer little package.

Gian: Yeah that's very cool of you guys man, and you know, I met one of you guys at Venice Beach up in 98. It's good to see that you guys are getting the recognition and the attention that you guys deserve.

Miles: Yeah man, Thanks!

Gian: When you guys are not writing music or touring, what do you guys do to relax, unwind or pass the time?

Miles: We live in a beach town, Ocean Beach, San Diego, and we live on, pretty much on the beach. You can surf, you can chill, I like to play Golf, Play ball or whatever...Jam music and all and pretty much chill, fuck around all day. When we're tour, we're usually on the road 200 days a year, so it's nice when you get home, relax and just do your regular shit, you know?

Gian: It must take a toll on you guys to be out on the road 200 days!

Miles: Well, it' fun. You get to be with all of your friends, hang out and play music, crazy fans everywhere, it's awesome!

Gian: Any additional comments?

Miles: Thanks to everybody for always supporting us and giving us love, I hope you like the new record!

Gian: Thank you thank you thank you so uch for doing the interview man, I've been trying to get you guys for a while and you know I love your music and i hope you guys keep writing bro and good luck on the road, I'll see you guys on tour.

Miles: Right on man, Thanks for doing it.

Gian: Alright miles, we'll talk to you then.

Miles: Alright man, Take Care.

Gian: Thanks Miles!

Be sure to pick up "Chronchitis" which will be due out on 8-7-07! Be sure to also check out Stoopid on their upcoming tour dates all over the U.S.
