Sanctity

Sanctity's debut album "Road to Bloodshed," out now on Roadrunner Records, is taking them out on the road with Machinehead and Arch Enemy. Drawing attention and respect from fellow metallers such as Mathew K. Heafy and Dave Mustaine, Sanctity immediately found themselves a home with Roadrunner Records after a slew of successful shows. We caught up with Jared, lead singer of Sanctity, while in the middle of the desert heading into Arizona.

By: Gian Erguiza

Gian: Jared! What's going on man, how are ya?

Jared: Doing fine man, just driving through the desert.......

Gian: Alright Jared, let's talk about your latest installment, "Road to Bloodshed," which originally came out on, I think, April 24th of this year. I just got introduced to your album and I'm glad I did. How is the album doing?

Jared: It seems to be doing alright, I mean it's not exactly flying off the shelves or nothing but we're working hard to getting it out there until everyone's got a copy.

Gian: That's cool man.....Would you consider "Road to Bloodshed" you guys' best offering to date?

Jared: Well, yeah, It's our first Label release and we had demos previously way back in the day and yeah I would consider it, I guess its our best to date.

Gian: So Jared, how's life on the road? I know you guys are on tour now with Symphony X....how's it been so far?

Jared: Man it's fun! It's what we do! We really enjoy and love playing shows for everybody.....We love to tour....So It's going pretty well.

Gian: Well since we're on the topic, what happens typically backstage after you guys step off the stage?

Jared: Well actually on this tour, One of us will go to merch and try to sell some T-Shirts, The rest of the guys.....We pack up our own gear, then we probably just relax for a bit and have a couple beers for the rest of the show. We usually don't get too crazy unless we have a day off or a close route the next day or so....You know, we just hangin' out, havin' a couple of beers.

Gian: Now, You guys are also going to do "The Black Tyranny Tour" with Machinehead, Archy Enemy and Throwdown, tell man, how excited are you guys to be a part of this tour!?

Jared: Oh, man, I'm totally excited about this tour man and we're really really lookin' forward to it!...

Gian: I am looking forward to it to it myself, I just barely heard about this bill and wow man, I'm going to be there for sure!

Jared: You know, hell, you've got Machinehead and Arch Enemy and Throwdown?, that's supposed to be...........

The Phone Hangs Up......

Dial 1 - No avail...

Dial 2.....

Gian: Jared!

Jared: What's up man!

Gian: I guess you're really going through the desert! Probably no Antennas out there! So where are you guys headed to right now?

Jared: Phoenix

Gian: Guess that means you guys have a show tonight...

Jared: Oh yeah!

Gian: You're video for "Beneath the Machine" is great man, who came up with the concept and the idea?

Jared: It's going to be us and the director..It's a funny rendition of the concept of the song. We all just kind of had the idea what to do and did bunch of filming, went to this tattoo shop all day and kind of just went from there

Gian: I just loved the whole Tattoo Parlor scene, that was cool......

Jared: I thought it was pretty cool too....

Gian: What can you say is the some biggest influences in your sound? I hear a lot of Thrash in your sound but you guys also have different elements of metal?

Jared: Well, we like all kinds of stuff, I mean we also like some of the obvious ones, metallica, megadeth, sepultura, sepultura is one of my favorites, um with every respect...Ozzy, people with good choruses that you can remember...

Gian: Let's talk vocals. You scream/sing night for night. What do you do to keep your voice in top form?

Jared: I warm up. I warm up before I go on and after the show I sometimes try to rest my voice for a little bit just in case, it doesnt always happen cause like I said I've got to go talk to the people before, during the show or sometimes I'm runnin' around yellin' like a madman but warming up definitely, you know that's a big thing for me.

Gian: Sounds like some work!....What's your favorite song to sing live and why?

Jared: Oooh, um.....

Gian: I mean I know all you guys have the ones you love to play but....

Jared: Well, it's just singing, It's hard to say....I mean I know one of my favorite songs to play and perform is "Beloved Killer." That's one I really like to do a lot but as far as singing goes, it's hard to say.

Gian: Good choice!

Gian: So Who writes most of the songs? I know you guys probably collaborate on all the songs but who comes writes most of it?

Jared: Really? It's all of us. I mean we all come in with the ideas, we all add something to each song. I mean there's not really one main songwriter, you know, cause we all do it. I mean drummers come up with guitar riffs, we come up with bass riffs, bass reflects lyrics, vocals and all that stuff, we all do everything really.

Gian: So when you guys are at home, not making music, what do you guys do on your spare time?

Jared: Workin'! Fuck man, we've got jobs and stuff! Sometimes when we get time off, a couple of times we've gotten a few weeks off between tours so you know you can't just sit around and do nothing. We work, we practice and instead of just kind of taking it easy and going with it.

Gian: What do you think of the whole thrash scene making a comeback?

Jared: Well I'm not, well, I'm not sure if it ever went away.It might've gone out of I guess mainstream metal but hell....we've been playing with thrash bands for years where we're from, you know? Theres a couple of bands that have been famous for a long time and its been like since 2001 that weve been doing thrash all along. I guess it is becoming popular again, which is pretty sweet, I really dig thrash metal you know?

Gian: Alright man, before we descend, please do tell our readers why they should not miss your show and why they should buy the album?....

Jared: Well as far as the show goes, we put a lot of energy into the show. If you want to come to the show, jump around and get crazy, scream your head off, headbang, mosh, do all that crazy stuff, come see our show cause that's what we love to do. as far as the album goes, all the songs in there are strong and everyone can really form a few favorite songs that they would really really like and it sounds best when turned up very very loud so make sure you'd do that.

Gian: Jared, thank you for doing the interview....Do you have any additional comments?

Jared: Ah, well, come see us at a show, we're usually hangin' out around a show and you know, you'll see us around you know we don't hide backstage and if you see us, come see us and say hey!

Gian: Well Jared, thank you for the interview and enjoy the rest of the tour and I'll see you guys out on the road!

Jared: Thanks Man!

Gian:Thanks Jared!
