Gallows

Real Punk hasn't sounded this good since, well, Real Punk Music. Meet Gallows, UK's great gift to Punk Rock Music. These boys are making a lot of noise with their latest installment, "Orchestra of Wolves" and are currently on an extensive tour until December. We take a moment to reflect with Gallows about their current state.

By: Gian Erguiza

Gian: So you guys are about to wrap up the Warped Tour, heading back on the road for more shows until December, including Taste of Chaos Tour. How is the road coming along? Got any Interesting stories?

Gallows: Now we're coming to the end of Warped we're looking forward to returning to what we consider "Normal weather" back home. Having said that we had a lot of fun on Warped despite the heat and long journeys between shows. We've made heaps of new friends and had the chance to catch up with old buddies too. There are many interesting stories involving porn stars, tattoos, ex-wrestlers, limousines, broken teeth, poisonous creatures, fireworks, showers in the rain and Canadians. Look out for our biography.

Gian: "Orchestra of Wolves" must've taken a lot of time and dedication. How does it feel that it's finally out and making a lot of noise?

Gallows: Orchestra of Wolves took a long time to see the light of day and nearly never got finished. The day we started demoing the album Frank left the band. Since we had the time booked in the studio we recorded some old songs and a load of new ones that I had written. None of which had lyrics prepared for. By the time Frank heard the new tracks he asked to sing on the record. We never expected the album to go anywhere as we weren't writing anything that kids would call "cool". We were writing music for ourselves and the fact it has been so well received around the world means that there are people out there with good taste in music.

Gian: The music on "Orchestra of Wolves" makes me want to punch someone in the face. What inspires you guys to write this beautiful, high-powered and honest music?

Gallows: From the instruments to the vocals, our music exists on passion and honesty. The lyrics are probably the most down to earth on any record to have come out recently. Everything is inspired by events that effect us personally and at the same time others out there can relate to what we scream about.

Gian: How in the hell did you guys come up with the album title "Orchestra of Wolves?" What's the idea behind the album title?

Gallows: We spent ages looking for an album title. I came up with Orchestra of Wolves as we wanted to keep everything about Gallows slightly ambiguous. Album titles and artwork often carry implicit hints as to what a band will sound like. We didn't want anyone to have any pre-conceptions about Gallows. Orchestra of Wolves represents the musical and aggressive side to our music.

Gian: You guys have to have a favorite song off the new album that you guys love to play live. Which song is the band's favorite to play live and why?

Gallows: I love playing "In The Belly Of A Shark" live since it has a guitar solo. Simple.

Gian: The video for "Abandon Ship" is straight mayhem. Where was it recorded and how did you guys decide on which song to record a video for?

Gallows: We had a few cameras come down and film our last show of our tour with The Scare. It was filmed at the 100 Club in London. It is well known for kicking off punk rock in the city back when it began. The song Abandon Ship is our oldest song and probably the easiest introduction to the Gallows sound.

Gian: "Nervous Breakdown" is def. a favorite Black Flag song of mine and you guys did a tremendous job covering it for the Kerrang! Covermount CD. Out of all the songs in this world, how did you guys finally decide on this particular Black Flag song?

Gallows: We were in the studio and had plenty of spare time so decided to record another track. Nervous Breakdown being a band favorite seemed like an obvious choice. Plus it's easy to play!

Gian: This ones for Mr.Frank Carter. You've got some pretty distinguished and intricate Tattoos. What do they mean, for example, your chest piece or neck piece?

Gallows: He doesn't own a mirror so has no ideas what tattoos he has. Sorry.

Gian: The Gallows loves______________.

Gallows: xbox

Gian: Please enlighten our readers as to what they can expect from a live show by Gallows?

Gallows: Not even we know what to expect from a live show.

Gian: Any additional comments?

Gallows: Don't listen to shitty music.

Thanks Guys!
