FEATURED INTERVIEWS 07

Evergreen Terrace

Evergreen Terrace is a band that isn't concerned with gimmicks or current trends. Evergreen Terrace has also just released their newest installment, " Wolfbiker," under Metal Blade Records, and is currently on tour with bands like Sworn Enemy, Strung Out and Agnostic Front until the end of December. We got the chance to talk with Josh about the current hardcore/metal scene, their latest, Wolfbiker, and signing with Metal Blade Records.

By: Gian Erguiza

Gian: Josh! What's going on man? Thanks for taking time out to talk with us! I'm glad to have you guys in Frantik! Alright let's get this started since I know you probably have a busy schedule ahead of you.....

Josh: Yeah Im actually in Vegas right now.....

Gian: Oh, how about that, The City of Sin......So now I'm thinking that you are most likely half wasted right now?

Josh: That's an interesting point actually cause I'm the only one in the band that doesn't drink but I can guarantee that the rest of the band are wasted......

Gian: So you guys just released "Wolfbiker" I think about three days ago and I must say, it's brutally fantastic! What's the idea behind the album and the album title?

Josh: It's pretty much like free thinking. That's what it kind of involves like so many people now are following trends trying to be so unoriginal and I think that theres a few people that try too hard to go against the grain as far how everything is....I'm sorry man, I'm in an elevator full of people....

Gian: No, man its all good, I can hear you loud and clear....

Josh: The idea of Wolfbiker is a heavy one, you know you shouldn't let everyone influence you as far as where you are in your life, you know what kind of music you want to listen to, how to dress, what you want to believe in, I mean everyone's got their own mind and can make their own decision, you should probably use your own mind to find the happiness

Gian: So what's your favorite song on the album and why?

Josh: I think right now, my favorite one is "Where there is fire we will carry gasoline," Track 5 I beleive, I just really like the energy in that song and I think you can really hear all the different kinds of influence that we have musically in that song, like the melodic punk to the heavier hardcore riffs to the more like singing along, catchy, rock type songs parts that we have but that is my favorite one right now.

Gian: I was just actually listening to that song right now and I was real into that one...

Josh: Cool man, thanks!

Gian: You guys got signed to Metal Blade this year. How did this come about and how happy were you guys to sign with Metal Blade?

Josh: The label that we were on previously, things were just not working out and we weren't seeing eye to eye on a lot of things and the band kind of made a decision that it was time for us to move forward and take a step in the direction that we wanted to go to and start looking for a new label. At first we were talking to a lot of labels and then Ken from As I Lay Dying started talking to Metla Blade about us and he just started a new label called High Impact, so we ended up working out something with the record being released on Metal Blade and High Impact and we kind of went with Metal Blade cause it felt like we had the best connection with them versus the otehr labels that we had been talking to, and honestly, I think Metal Blade had similar interest on where the band wanted to go and what we're trying to accomplish and it seemed like the best thing to do at the time and so far, working with Metal Blade has been amazing and we definitely feel like we made the right decision.

Gian: That's cool man....Nice to see you on Metal Blade also....So you guys are giving away an autographed guitar as part of the Wolfbiker Contest.....which is way cool of you guys btw.....Have you guys seen any of them yet that made you say "What is this?"

Josh: Thanks Man! Yeah, theres been a bunch of videos that kids have turned in and they've all been fucking hilarious! Some kids took it to the extreme like this one kid just running in his backyard and his friend just cracks him with a 2 x 4 over his head and we were just like, "Holy Shit!" and theres definitely some wild videos and some weird ones but I think its really cool cause I think the kids have had a lot of fun and were definitely excited to continue watching them and In a few weeks we're going to announce the winner and figure out who's going to win the guitar.

Gian: Yeah, that's very cool of you guys especially since there's not a lot of bands that have the liberty of doing what you're doing and I bet youre fans must be loving it!

Josh: Yeah, dude we're just stoked that fans are participating and stuff......

Gian: You guys are out on the road now, how's it coming along so far?

Josh: So far so good, this week, these two days were the mark of the first week and we started in Atlanta and so far we've made our way over to Las Vegas to tour with Casey Jones, The Warriors and August Burns Red and the shows have been awesome. The tour has been a blast and all the guys in the bands have been great to hang out with so we're in Vegas tonight and I'm pretty sure it's about to get rowdy and then we're headed over to California for a week and then we're headed over to Florida, so its been a blast so far and we're looking forward to the rest of the weeks.

Gian: Okay now guide me through this, what consists of a regular day when you guys are out on tour? A typical day?

Josh: HHmmm, a typical day.......Wake up, meet the band, get something to eat, drive to the show, load in, do sound check, hang out within the venue or get a look around the city, do the show and then party until 5 in the morning and repeat.

Gian: Do you guys have any band rituals, band rules before going onstage or do you guys just pretty much conserve the energy and let your nerves do all the action once you get onstage?

Josh: Pretty much, the band rules that we have are just absolutely ridiculous but as far when we get on stage, the only absolute rule is to play the right song.

Gian: And now while were on the topic of partying all night....How important is it get rest before the next performance?

Josh: I think that it is important but it doesn't really happen so just to be able to function with little sleep but you do feel a million times better after a shave, shit, and a shower and you know a couple hours of sleep before the show, it's a real good feeling.

Gian: What are you guys current thoughts of the state that hardcore/metal is in?

Josh: I think it's blowing up right now and I think its good for a lot of bands and I think a lot more people that didn't have access to all this music has access to it now and I think its really cool and estranged. At shows now, I also notice that people are getting more friendly with each other I think it was a few years ago where all that ever happens were fights and violence and it looks like a lot of it has dissapeared, at least from the shows that were involved in. I think it's in a pretty cool state right now.

Gian: So What does Evergreen Terrace do to pass the time? I seen on your videos that you guys like to fuck around....

Josh: Hehehe yeah definitely. Whatever, We don't really exactly what town we're going be in so we won't know what to do, so we'll find something to do or something ridiculous to do. If we have the strength to go, we'll go to the movies, get tattooed, chill out at a friends house or at a hotel. Lately we've been finding a lot of lakes and just go swimming in the lakes and just trying to have as much fun as possible. We have a lot of our friends with us out on tour so it's really cool.

Gian: Alright, before we go, please enlighten our readers what they can expect to see from an Evergreen Terrace show?

Josh: Dude, I don't even know where to start? partying....

Gian: I'm thinkin', absolute mayhem.

Josh: Yeah, Yeah, Real good energy and a lot of fun.

Gian: So I just wanted to put this out there, Much respect to you guys for staying true to yourselves....It's truly a genuine thing these days for bands to not to stay true to themselves rather than follow the majority or the current trend and do what' best for your music.

Josh: I think that is something that we'll always hold true to and I think that that is something that we don't plan on changing like other bands do.

Gian: You guys have any additional comments?

Josh: No that's it man and thank you for doing the interview!

Gian: Alright man, Ill see you guys on tour and good luck with the album and Ill see you guys when you hit California!

Josh: Sounds Good man, thanks a lot!

Gian: Alright Josh!

Josh: Peace!

Gian: Peace!
