FEATURED INTERVIEWS 07
Ed Santos
The Rock Da Mullet boss is a self made business entreprenuer. With a hairstyle that's been known to be a fashion faux paus, Ed takes his seriously. Serious enough to build an empire out of it. We caught up with Ed to see what he's got going on.By: Gian Erguiza

Gian: Alright, let’s get it on. Where do you reside Ed and where were you born?
Ed!: I've been living in the OC for over 15 years now. I'm Filipino, born in Japan with a Mexican last name.
Gian: How did you come up with rockdamullet and why?
Ed!: I originally donned the mullet (even though it was never called a mullet back then) since 1985. Back in the day, it was a pretty stylish pompadour with the back grown out into long tails. Some years later, someone decided to call it a mullet because that was a fish with a long tail. I began growing it back out in early 2002 after finding a pic of myself from 1988 and decided it was time to Rock Da Mullet once again! Since then, I started on friendster but that only lasted a while until i was introduced to Myspace way back before the rest of the world was on it.
Gian: What kind of music do you rock out to Ed? Who’s in your Ipod/CD Player right now?
Ed!: 80's Metal, 80's New Wave, 80's Funk and Hip Hop. None of today's music. blaah! Grandmaster Flash and the Furious 5, the Cult, Bauhaus, Prince, Morris Day and the Time, Motley Crue, Dokken, New Order, Social Distortion, Def Leppard, etc.
Gian: Besides promoting, marketing and being a businessman, are there any other things that you love to do?
Ed!: Working over 180 shows, concerts, skate, snow and surf gigs a year, I enjoy taking my kids to the skatepark or just taking friends and kids backstage at shows to meet the bands and watch their reactions. With a new baby girl on the way, staying home spending time with my family will be golden.
Gian: What are you working on right now?
Ed!: Lots of concerts, skate and surf events for this summer as well as bitchin giveaways from surf and skate companies with clothing and skate decks!
Gian: So is it true what they say about mullets? Business in the front, party in the back?
Ed!: For me it has always been up front business and party all the time!
Gian: It’s so damned cool how you hook people up. Why do you?
Ed!: Empowerment. Being able to give something to those, that feel they never have the chance to experience what I deal with on a daily basis. Teaching kids that you dont have to be with the 'in' crowd to be cool. Showing people how to make something of themselves and believing that things do happen, if you put your mind to it.
Gian: Your hair must be valuable, what would it take for you to actually go short or bald?
Ed!: Haven't gotten that far yet. I will turn 40 this year and still have a full head of hair, so I've been blessed. Who knows, if I ever go bald, I guess I would have to start, Rock Da Baldness?
Gian: What would be the next step for rockdamullet?
Ed!: My goal is to start my own foundation and raise money to support Youth Empowerment thru music, art, fashion and lifestyle for kids with disabilities and stricken with cancer or other diseases that limits them from being able to do things they enjoy. I am also working with a few companies to brand a whole new world of Rock Da Mullet Merchandising. Being the next 'Hello Kitty' with Rock Da Mullet on everything from clothing, to shoes, to bed spreads, to pajamas, to backpacks to toasters to beach cruisers, etc.
Gian: What’s the best thing about being in this business?
Ed!: I make people happy.
Gian: Any additional comments?
Ed!: If you cant rock it. Don't knock it.
Gian: Thanks Ed!
