By: Gian Erguiza

Gian: Who is Slaughter the Weak? Where are you guys originally from and how did it all begin?

SOTW: Slaughter The Weak is from Chicago, Il. The band members include Shady Hamid, Mark Rominski, Roman Lorek, Arie Churlin, and Will Hoffman.

The band came together in the spring of 07, after several projects the members were involved in went on hiatus. Shady, Will and Roman were part of a band called Bloody December, which gained serious recognition in the local area. Bloody December ended after several members had different ideas on the direction of the band, causing tension in the group. Mark Rominski was a part of a group called The Love The Prey which shared the stage and packed venues with Bloody December on several occasions. After both bands dismembered, the members crossed paths once again to form a new group with a completely different sound. The band rehearsed for several months in search for a drummer to complete the sound. Arie Churlin was one person that caught the bands attention. Being highly influenced by a wide variety of music Arie was the perfect addition to create the sound the group was aiming for.

Gian: What best describes the music that you guys play and how did you guys get started?

SOTW: The music of Slaughter The Weak is best described as a mix of new school metal with influences ranging from jazz to southern rock and hardcore to death metal. The band tries to bring something new to the table with every piece of music they create. Today's scene is filled with many groups that fit the same form, Slaughter The Weak does not pay attention to these trends and plays music they love.

Gian: If there was any artist or band that you guys would like to share the stage with one day, who would you guys choose and why?

SOTW: There is a few bands we would love to share the stage with. If we had to pick one it would definitely be a toss up between The Black Dahlia Murder and Slayer, both bands have caught the attention of millions of people across the world with their intense stage show and brutal sound.

Gian: What is the message that your band is trying to convey or what are you guys trying to accomplish?

The message the band is trying to convey is that music is not everything in life. Playing music provides many opportunities to see different places and meet many unique people in the world. The fans is what allow us to play in a band, and we are very grateful for all the people that gave this group a chance. What we are trying to accomplish with this band is to play to as many people in different places as possible.

Gian: Any additional comments or shout-outs?

Shout outs to our friends for coming out and supporting us every chance they get. We are nothing with out the people who support us. Big thanks to all the bands we share the stage with, special thanks to our boys in Burning Victoria, The Doomsday Catalyst, and Short Handed Goal.
