Figure Of Six

If the figures are correct, according to my calculations, Figure of Six is one of Italy's best metal imports.

These brutal lads from Italy have found a formula that works to their advantage. Fusing electronic & melodic complicity, Figure Of Six has evolved into something more than your usual metal offerings. With an ambitious album in "Aion," the boys in FO6 have a bright future ahead of them. Matteo from FO6 lends us a hand into their world and gives us an insight as to what FO6 is all about.

Fellas! Please help me out and give our beloved readers a quick history on how the band got started and it's humble beginnings?

Hi Frantik readers, I'm Matteo from the italian band Figure Of Six. We started in the late 90s with a different name and a different line up. We changed the old name and line up in 2003 when Jako (vocals) and M-Key (keyboards) came in, some time after that Lele joined the band on drums. We recorded our first album that year which came out on Copro Records on October 2004. After a Uk tour in 2006 we started again writing new music, we recorded it in the summer of 2007. The new album called Aion is out on Locomotive Records since April 18 in Europe and June 20 in Usa this year.

Thanks Matteo! So guys, what's new in the world of Figure Of Six and what are you guys currently cooking up in the lab?

We are currently writing new songs and trying to book a tour support in Europe, this is pretty much what's happening at the moment!

"Aion" is one exceptional metal album! It's got the good elements of metal, trimmed down without the fat. What went into making this album as far as recording, sound and production?

Thanks a lot! We worked hard to improve our technics and writing skills so we are really happy with that result. We recorded the album at Studio 73 here in Ravenna (Italy) with Paso who is probably the most quoted italian producer. He worked with some good bands here like Slowmotion Apocalypse, At The Soundawn and Ephel Duath. After recording we mixed and mastered it with danish producer Tue Madsen who worked with bands like Sick Of It All, Suicide Silence, The Haunted, Hatesphere and many more! Of course we still have a lot to learn but we are trying to present our music the best we can for you listeners!!

"Tough question, I'm not sure about it. We all love the styles you mentioned but our music does not fit with none of them. I think we play metal our way..."

Speaking of the whole process, where do you guys derive inspiration from when songwriting and what's the usual process for you guys of putting the songs together?

Big bands have always inspired us while new bands keep us up to date with what is going on in the music world. We don't really have one band inspiring us, we learn day by day from old and new music. We usually start writing music, after that we work on vocals melodies and lyrics.

Did you guys have any goals for 'Aion' and has the album exceeded your expectations so far?

A lot of good things happened with this album. Reviews, interviews and promotion all over the world, Locomotive Records did a great job on this album! We are a young band of course but what happened with this album seems to be a good starting point!

Out of the many ass kicking tunes from "Aion," which song is the bands favorite and which song is the bands favorite in a live setting?

We love each song of course...favorite songs of the band could be "Morning Star" "The man with the book and the gun" and "Warshow". As for live setting i think that "Akeldama" and "Ten Years Alone" always get a good vibe from the audience.

Do you guys ever pay attention to what's happening to the radio and the music charts?

Yeah we had some good reactions in Germany on Metal Charts and we had reports of airplay on radios in Europe and Usa...we are stoked about it!!!

Are you guys looking to film a video for any of the songs off 'Aion?' I would personally love to see a video for 'Morning Star!' Live DVD?

Yes we'll probably shoot a videoclip for the song Morning Star in the near future...as for a live DVD i think we have to wait a little bit more...it's difficult to shoot it professionally!

There's been a nasty shift in touring plans for indie bands in the U.S. lately due to high gas prices. What do you guys propose we do about the gas prices and do you guys have any suggestions for indie bands so they can continue to tour?

Ahah man!!! Gas in Italy is about 1.6 euros per litre ahah really expensive...the solution could be not using it anymore!!! The are so many different ways...oil is not the only one we have to realize it!

METAL!

With metal music having an array of different metal styles like Death, Hardcore, Thrash and so on, where do you guys fit into the equation and where do you guys stand in the musical metal landscape?

Tough question, I'm not sure about it. We all love the styles you mentioned but our music does not fit with none of them. I think we play metal our way...

Never been to Italy and I bet I'm missing out! If my staff and I were to decide to go to Italy and meet up with you guys, where would you guys take us for some good ol' times?

We live near the adriatic sea so I think I would take you to a beach party at the moment :)

What else can we expect from Figure Of Six for the rest of 08'?

We will play as much shows as we can this year to promote Aion. We will also write new songs in 2008 and probably in 2009...we have planned to record the new album in late 2009!

Any additional comments or shout-outs?

Thanks for your support! I hope to meet you guys and all the Frantik mag readers soon on the road!!

Thanks Matteo and Keep the metal tunage comin' guys!!!
