LIVE REVIEW
Tim Fite @ The Echo, Los Angeles Ca.
By: Gian Erguiza - August, 2008
The video in the background plays some out of this world videos and out comes Tim Fite, looking like the guy that would've brought your milk for you back in the 50's. "Hello I'm Tim Fite and this beautiful man over here is Dr.Leisure," claimed Tim Fite as soon as he steps onstage. Almost inherently, they jump into a dialoguesque song with both talking back and singing, setting the tone from for the rest of the show.
Tim Fite is probably one of the most creative artists out there in music today. This would be my first Tim Fite show but from what I've been hearing, you never know what you're going to get and boy was that remark all so true. Tim Fite's songs are full of humor, punch lines and beats that would make DJ's and bands alike envy. For me, I can't quite explain the sound which goes from Country, Alternative to Hip-Hop to something else. It was a trip.
After the show I thought to myself, that was odd. Odd meaning in a good way. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I've never seen anything like it. It was completely spastic, unforeseeable and spontaneous to the point where halfway through ths show I was thinking, "Is this guys serious?" and sure thing he was. Tim Fite is a talent all in itself and musicians are meant to entertain, which is what you get from Tim Fite's live show, pure entertainment fun!
The first song threw me off but by the second song, I was onboard. Tim Fite's vocals are out of this world plus with Dr. Leisure adding to the chaotic madness of fun with his own brand of weirdness, it was a match made in heaven. "Big Mistake," which sounded absolutely great resonated through the crowd and showcased what Tim Fite's all about. The lyrics are catchy and the beat was oddly enough, steady. "," was another song that got the crowd to nod their heads in acceptance and even bust out a little bit of dancing in appreciation.
The funny thing about the whole thing is, I still have the whole show stuck in my head. Not that it was the best show on earth but for the simple fact that I was so glad to hear and see something different for a change. It was refreshing and real.
Tim Fite also had himself in video in the background while he sang most of his songs. Other videos would play in the background while Tim sang his songs but for the most part, it was a video with three Tim Fite's all dressed the same but acting different and doing different things. I also like the fact that the video would start the song and Tim and partner would jump in cohesively with the video to complete the song. I gotta say, that's gotta be a little nerve racking if the video was to fail, then what? Nonetheless, no glitches occured and the show was great!
Audience participation was also in full attention as Tim would order the crowd, with visuals, to touch their "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes." The crowd obliged with no problems and it was quite the fun! Silly little me even got into it! how can I not, the whole place was into it and I didn't want to be the lone poopy pants in the crowd. Tim's storytelling onstage was also hilarious and really went well over the crowd plus visual help.
Vocally, I could tell that Tim and Dr.Leisure had vocal effects but it didn't really matter, I could tell that Tim can sing his ass off. The songs were catchy but odd and served the purpose well. The only thing I wished for, beign a guitar player myself, is that Tim would've rocked out on the guitar a little bit more than just one song. That would've been icing on the cake! The songs were the mixture you would expect from this duo, ecclectic and genre bending.
Overall, Tim Fite is a poineer in his own right. Artists and bands could really learn a lot from Tim Fite about getting onstage and just having unadulterated, boisterous fun without the attitude nor the concern. Tim Fite equals good times.
