Why Is Crystal Meth So Evil?
By: Gian Erguiza - August, 2008
Tweaker! Crackhead! Oh lord, that term is so loosely used by people today that normal people who don’t have a clue what it is, is quick to call anyone who is suspiciously, might be under the influence of some drug, regardless of which one. A tweaker is someone who is hooked on crystal meth. Crystal meth is a colorless, odorless form of d-methamphetamine, a very powerful and highly synthetic man-made stimulant. Crystal meth , at a quick glance, resembles small fragments of glass, or shiny-blue white rocks, varying in size. It is a relative of the powdered methamphetamine, crystal methamphetamine is abused by users cause of the long-lasting euphoric effects it produces. Crystal meth has a higher purity level and produces longer-lasting effects and more physiological effects than the powdered relative form of the drug.
So why is crystal meth so evil? Well there are a number of reasons but there are some reasons that stick out like a sore thumb. From my personal experiences, I can write out a whole book based on my experiences alone with tweakers and their weird, evil, conniving, and paranoid ways. I’ve seen the rich and the poor do it, even celebrities and rockstars, but the most terrifying thing that I’ve noticed about tweak is: It does not discriminate, everyone is welcome to drown in it.
I had a friend once who was bright, young, talented and extra sharp. He was on his way to a good life, a life that most of us could only dream of chasing until he met his divine weakness, crystal meth. Things soon started taking a turn for the worse and there was no way that he stop until he finally had a heart attack that ended his life and his dreams altogether.
I knew another friend that was so “tweaked out” that he actually started selling everything in his house just to get it to keep his habit going. This guy even started to steal DVD’s from video stores so he can sell it at the corner of his building so he can fund his out of control habit. He stole from his sisters, girlfriend, friends and virtually was almost consumed by this drug in full, day and night, he was either cleaning the pipe or hitting it, that’s it. That was his agenda every waking moment, if there was any since he rarely slept.
I have so many tweaker stories that it’s almost unbelievable. There is the one chick who plucked out all of the hair on her arms in one night. There is the one guy that didn’t want to leave his house because he thought that “they” were watching him and constantly looked or peeped out of the blinds only to find out, when he sobered, that it was all in his imagination. There is another one where the guy got disgruntled over the amount of tweak that he was given for his measly $20 baggie and literally took over the drug dealers house by taking the dealers AK-47, telling everyone to get the fuck out of the house and locked himself in the garage, only to find himself 3 hours later, giving everything back and saying sorry.
Crystal meth is typically smoked through a glass pipe, similar to the ones used for smoking crack cocaine. Crystal meth could also be injected but is rarely used in that way. Almost in an instant that when a user smokes or injects crystal meth in their system, they experience an intense sensation, euphoric and a high that could last 12 hours or more, depending on how much they took.
Crystal meth is used by people of all ages. Like I’ve said previously, it does not discriminate. A recent study has shown that there is no specific number of how many crystal meth users there are in the U.S. because studies and surveys don’t distinguish between crystal meth and powdered meth. Those surveys and studies that were directed strictly to crystal meth found that crystal meth use is widespread.
It is no wonder that drug use has its side effects. Crystal meth use is associated with numerous physical problems. Increased heart rate, increased blood pressure and damage to the small blood vessels in your brain are some of the common causes which can eventually lead to a stroke. Chronic use of this drug can also cause an inflammation to your heart’s lining. Overdosing on crystal meth can lead to hyperthermia, convulsions, and death. Some other common side effects of this drug are:
- Violent Behavior
- Paranoia
- Anxiety
- Confusion
- Insomnia
The drug also produces psychotic like symptoms that persists for months or years even after drug use has stopped. Crystal meth users who choose to inject the drug, expose themselves to HIV, Hepatitis C & B, and other blood-borne viruses. Liver disease, scarred veins, tuberculosis, pneumonia, and infection to the hearts’ lining and valves are also some of the side effects of injecting this drug.
Yes, just in case you were wondering, crystal meth is illegal. Crystal meth is considered to be a Schedule II substance under the Controlled Substances Act. All drugs, including cocaine and PCP, are considered to have the highest potential for abuse. Abuse of these drugs may lead to severe psychological or physical dependence.
If you or know someone that is a crystal meth user, I suggest you get them help ASAP. You see, a crystal meth user who is under the influence will never know how bad or deep they’re into the drug until they fall. They will fall hard, they always do. They will recover and lie to your face that it is the last time and that they want to quit but it’s all a false pretense, don’t fall for it. Watch them closely and keep reminding them about how good their life is without the drug. They will relapse if their will is not strong enough, guaranteed.
I always quiver at the notion that there are more anti-marijuana commercials on TV rather than anti-crystal methamphetamine commercials. It has been a proven fact that crystal meth is way worse in every way over marijuana. Crystal meth should have a “Stop crystal meth” movement since the damage from crystal meth to your life is clearly visible and undeniable.
Remember, it only takes one hit for you to be hooked. It only takes that one time that you were curious “To try everything at least once.” It only takes one time.
