Rejoice and Sing! is what comes to mind when listening to Tilly and the Wall. Their joyful and uplifting sound is quite infectious and absolutely all about fun. We got a chance to talk with Nick of Tilly and the Wall all about their forthcoming album and what they love.

Hello Tilly and the Wall! Would you guys please do me a huge favor and give our readers a quick history lesson on the band and it’s humble beginnings?

We became friends playing music together in Omaha. Some of us had been friends with one or two of the others, but really as a group we all got to know each other as we wrote and played songs, and we were all surprised and excited to realize we were all interested in continuing to be a full time band. Its been a few years, and we are now preparing for the release of our third full length album this summer.

So your forthcoming album is in the works and I’m pretty sure that it’s going to be just fabulous. What should we be expecting and how is the songwriting coming along so far?

It's done! We recorded the 11 songs over the winter in Omaha at arc studios. I wouldn't call the album a departure, but I think the songs have a little more individual character to them and we really thought about the settings each one would have. It's us exploring ideas we've been interested in and fleshing out ideas we've hinted at in the past.

What are you guys hoping to accomplish with your new record and what are you guys’ expectations for the new record?

We honestly are just happy to put it out at this point. As long as we can continue to tour and release music I think we'll do so. Also, I hope people enjoy it.

The video for “Beat Control” is extra badass. I really thought for a second there that I had just took a hit or two of some real good acid. Actually maybe I should……..nah…….Anyhow, who came up with the concept/idea for the video and where did you guys learn those sweet sweet dance moves!?

Well we had a budget! No, we wanted something green screened, and then to be able to have an outside creative force give it direction. So we danced and sent the video to our friend cody in kansas city who really put it all together and gave it the right vibe for the song.

Do you guys ever pay any attention to the radio or the charts?

Not for our own stuff, but I am always curious about other bands and what seems to keep peoples interest.

Alright, let’s get this one out of the way. Who is the myspace freak that answers all of the messages and comments?

Ha We've all answered one or two along the way, and tons of them go unanswered simply because of sheer volume, but if one is replied to chances are it's me or kianna!

The internet is taking over album sales and some people say that it’s not good. In fact some people say that the internet is actually killing music, instead of helping music. What are you guys’ thoughts on the subject of digital downloading and do you guys think that the internet is in fact killing music?

It'll take some time for things to sort themselves out with the internet, but it's nothing if not exciting. I don't think music as a cultural commodity is

"I wouldn't call the album a departure, but I think the songs have a little more individual character to them and we really thought about the settings each one would have."

anywhere near finished, so the bands will find a way of surviving. We put up our first two albums for free download when we finished them, and for a young band, I think it helped a lot and established a relationship between band and audience. I do not think laptop speakers are an appropriate way to listen to albums though hahaha.

What's the biggest misconception about Tilly and the Wall?

That we have our shit together.

Nine Inch Nails and Radiohead just threw a wrench in the system by letting their fans price thei records or free album download. What are you guys' thoughts on this subject and where do you guys think that music is headed in the future?

I'm all for bands trying new ways of selling/promoting music. Cover art is important to me though, and i will be sad if digital downloading removes that part of the experience. We are experimenting with having handmade removable art for our new album so we'll see if thats appealing or not to our audience.

When not making music nor playing onstage, what does Tilly and the Wall fancy and how do you guys pass the time, on and off the road?

On the road we don't have too much free time other than in the van. I count myself lucky because I can read while the van's moving, but we do different things, like cut out patches to sell at the shows. Off tour we all keep busy with projects and jobs and trying to expand our horizons.

If my staff and I were to head down to Omaha, Nebraska, where would you guys take us for some good times? We like to drink and smoke just to throw that out there!

There are a few places I always recommend in omaha, the brothers lounge, bangkok thai restaurant, there's a pony on 4th st, some nice buildings to see. . .

What else can we expect from Tilly and the Wall for 2008?

We'll be putting out our album in june, touring on and off the rest of the year, and I bet we'll throw a few 7"s in the mix at some point too!

Any additional comments or shout-outs?

Thanks.

Thanks Nick!
