Lonesome Spurs @ The Hilton, Anaheim, CA.
By: Gian Erguiza - February, 2008
If the Lonesome Spurs have ever had a bad day onstage, I would’ve never known. Every time I’ve had the chance to see The Lonesome Spurs, they have been nothing short of fantastic. The Lonesome Spurs are a one of a kind duo from the great state of Texas with soaring vocals, exceptional guitars and infectious songs…..not to mention an “Upgraded/Souped Up” suitcase for a bass drum to hold the beat. Genius!
I saw Linda of the Lonesome Spurs downstairs just before their show and she was getting ready to hit the stage. The stage was set at The Hilton’s lobby where for 4 nights, numerous bands were playing at different areas after the convention. I had already missed their show the night before at the Marriott so I made sure not to miss their show at The Hilton.
From what I was hearing around, the Lonesome Spurs rocked the Marriott so I was really excited to see if they can do it again for us tonight. The last time I saw these guys was a while back and they have been doing shows all over the place. All I can say is, they’re different, fresh, and undeniably extremely talented musicians.
As soon as the duo hit the stage, a small crowd had gathered around to listen. Danny B. then introduces Linda and vice versa. As soon as the duo hit the first note, jaws dropped. From the faces in the crowd, they found it hard to believe that this fine lady is not only singing and playing guitar but also holding the beat steady by using her signature suitcase for a bass drum! People were also entranced by Danny B’s most spectacular guitar playing skills which blended great with Linda’s guitars and amazing vocals. By the fourth song, the crowd had grown into something much bigger than when they started and it was evident that the Lonesome Spurs were kicking major ass. Some of the song highlights were “Ride Straddle Saloon” and “Lovesick.” “Lovesick” was actually my favorite song of the night due to it’s awesome lyrics and steady rhythm. It has the feel and the attitude and I just loved it! The only bummer, if it was really, would be the sound dudes. Something weird was happening with the sound where drum sounds were coming off the microphones interrupting two songs and brief break where they had to go and figure out what the hell was causing it. After the sound guys figured it out, it was back to Rock N’ Roll business for the spurs and they continued to rock the house without anymore interruptions.
I’m really sorry that I don’t have any pictures of the spurs rocking the stage but there’s always next time. Do not miss the Lonesome Spurs when they come to your town, they’re a treat and a half. Check on their myspace for dates and where they’ll be next, you won’t want to miss this.
