II: Poverty is a beast made of metal. Demiricous have made a metal album to be proud of, no bullshit, no crap. We check in with Scott Wilson and see what's up in Demiricous' world.

Alright guys, for those people that are unfamiliar with Demiricous, can you guys give us a brief history lesson on the group?

We formed in 2001 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Came out with a few self-released demos. Signed to Metal Blade. Released One in 06 and toured a shit ton with a few bands that didnt make any sense and a few that and few that totally ruled. Then we came home and wrote Two (poverty) and it was released a few months ago.

Your latest release,”II Poverty,” is crowd favorite here at Frantik headquarters. Was there any sentiment about which direction the album should go and how much work went into the songwriting, production and basically getting this album done?

Well, we knew we didn't want to do the same shit over again. We wanted to be more of our own band instead of just being some band that plays some genre specific style and stays that way forever you know? So we tried to open up the doors for new ideas. Just change up the pace a little. It was fun as hell. Its definitly more diverse than one. We heard the kill album from cannibal corpse and knew we wanted Eric Rutan. Which worked out cool, cuz he had just started working alot with Metal Blade so it was an easy thing to do. We spent about 5 or 6 months writing and then headed to Mana studios where we spent about 5 weeks recording, and playing Tiger woods golf on playstation.

“II Poverty” brings me back to the glory days of metal whenever I listen to it. What were you guys hoping to accomplish with this record?

Not really trying to accomplish too much besides having fun and making a record that is fun to listen to, you know? Fun to listen to the whole fuckin thing and not do the same shit over and over for 12 songs.

“Knuckle Eye” is hands down the best song on the album. What is the band’s favorite song to play live and which one always makes the crowd go ape shit?

I think I like playing 'expression of immunity to god' the most. That song is just so quick and to the point. Its fun to actually play on guitar too. Fast and furious. I dont know what the crowd really digs the most. I try to go the hell off and have a good fuckin time. Honestly I ussually dont pay that much attention to what the crowd is doing. Sometimes I do, but for the most part, I'm just looking at a wall of my hair.

You guys have some pretty psycho rabid fans. How much do you guys owe to the fans and what do you guys say to disappointed fans, if any? Any weird tales with fans you guys would like to fill us in on?

Disappointed fans? I dont know. I dont say shit to them. I signed some 45 year old crazy ladies butthole in the parking lot once. She had a huge slayer pentagram tattoo on her back. She was fuckin nuts. Kept talkin' about how she loves oral sex and that her boyfriend cant satisfy her and he was standing right there the whole time. Really weird.

Let’s shift gears. The News on the world is pretty grim. Benazir Bhutto just got assassinated, the Iraq War is in shambles, Album sales are way down and Lindsay Lohan just fell of the wagon. What the hell is really going on and what do you guys propose on doing to make this world, allow me to say this, “A better place?”

I can't do shit about the world. I'm at a loss. People are lost I think though. I don't ussually talk about politics to much but since you asked....I think we vote on people and go to war based on religion and alot of bullshit that doesn't matter at all. I think most people have the wrong idea on whats important.

As far as the whole celebs breaking down and fuckin up all over the place goes, I just think these kids dont really know or care about themselves. They believe the hype too much. Style and image and money and power and all that fake bullshit. It's all poison and these fuckin rich, spoiled, kids keep proving it over and over. It's easy to slip into a drug addiction when you dont give a shit about yourself.

In your opinion, why does the metal world have so much separation instead of unifying the whole metal world as one to make it a bigger monster than the rest?

I guess I dont really know what you mean. Maybe I'm removed from some part of it, but for the most part everybody I run into is pretty cool and down to help out. I guess theres the internet shit talkers, but I really give a shit about that stuff. Fuck em.

Speaking of metal, what do you guys consider to be definitely “Un-Metal?”

Nu-metal is basically no talent, over emotional but emotionless crap. But different strokes right?

Who in Demiricous is the myspace whore? Who gets to write everyone back and spread the wonderful word of Demiricous?

We all get on there and monitor it. Its actually fucked right now. We had it set up all nice but the guy who did it fucked it up some how and I haven't been able to get a hold of him.

Crowds can get pretty rowdy or lame but every band has these bad nights. What do you guys consider to be a bad night and how do you guys deal with a bad night?

I just drink and fuck off. I dont really care. Sometimes we deal with it by just cutting the set shorter. We've experienced that a lot in the last few years. What can you do? Just roll with it. Have fun anyways. But like I said, I'm usually looking at a wall of hair so I always think its a good show.

Demiricous loves ______________________________________.

3/4s of us like beer alot. Dustin loves weed. Ben likes diet mountain dew.

Alright let’s get to real talk. Who drinks beer or hard liquor in this band what’s you guys’ poison of choice? Just in case I run in to you guys and feel happy to buy some rounds……

Nate and I like Jagermeister a lot. I like shitty domestic lite beers, and Dustin smokes hella trees.

Being such top-notch, talented musicians in this over saturated music industry, what is you guys’ stance on the war between digital downloading vs. physical purchase?

I dont know. I try not to think about it too much. But as for myself, I buy everything. I'm the guy that likes to own music, the whole package you know? Plus man, its fuckin hard as fuck for these musicians to see a dollar. Everybody gets paid before they do. Its actually really fucked up. This band pretty much ruins our lives as far as making a living goes. Its a fuckin' vaccum. Just sucks everything out of us. In debt as fuck!!!

So for me, I try to support the shit if I like it. Cuz I would like the same in return you know?

If a huge fan of yours came up to you guys and asked,” Demiricous, what is the meaning of life?” What would you guys say?

For me its friends and the people that care about me. That's the most meaning I can find in life. If you dont have really good friends you really dont have shit.

Any additional comments?

Thank you for the interest. We appreciate it alot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Scott!
